LS: Pimpage and Must Reading

We’re not much here for craven pleas, but I wouldn’t mind if people dropped by <a href=”http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/bn/board?board.id=CenterStage&cds2Pid=21817&linkid=1360759″>here</a> and asked me anything.

Meanwhile, please take a gander at <a href=”http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/17/science/17angi.html?_r=1&ref=science”>this</a>. Very cool article about how memory functions.

  1. You guys are the best.

And while I try to keep a level head about reviews — it’s hard not to red that one and not want to meet this “Laura Lippman.” Because it’s hard for me to believe that I am the writer described therein.

  2. That memory article WAS pretty cool – especially this

“As frustrating as it can be to forget something new, its worse to forget what you already know. Scientists refer to this as the tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon, when you know something but cant spit it out, and the harder you try the more noncompliant the archives. Its such a virulent disorder that when you ask friends for help, you can set off so-called infectious amnesia”

I HATE that!! There is a password that I use every single day – every day! – and one day it was flat-gone from my brain. I could not recall it; it was not going to come back to me. It was one of those things almost in muscle memory (as when you can dial a phone number, but not recite it).

And speaking of passwords – I went to the B&N site and read the thread, and had several comments and questions to offer, and could NOT get it done! (I bet initiating the launch process for a cruise missile from a submarine is easier than posting a comment on that site)

  3. Not to sound like a clod – but your apology is NOT accepted – ’cause I owe YOU an apology for venting about B&N’s site! Really, I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed (now THERE’S a surprise!) – and the problem COULD be “the nut behind the wheel” – but it’s always fun to read you, and probably just as well when I can’t answer back; nonetheless, here’s looking forward to Carmel.

    Happy St Paddy’s day!

  4. brian,

I was able to sign up without a problem (not that I am bragging or anything!), so if you want to forward me any questions for Laura, I will be happy to post them on Centerstage saying that they came from you!
    Just email me.

  5. Holy crap. I just looked at the Centerstage board again and someone posted just below my first question and it appears to be FULL OF SPOILER QUESTIONS! Ugh! There should be some sort of warning at the top of that post for those of us who haven’t read it or finished it yet. Can the moderator add a big SPOILER ALERT to the top of that? Yikes!

  6. Natalie Angier is a terrific science writer. She’s very good at explaining complicated things. She’s also written a couple of excelent books. I think Woman, An Intimate Geography was just facinating and I learned in The Canon, why I’m a pain in the ass, some of the time. I recomend her highly.
    Congratulations to Laura.
